Old Friends

Röbert was supposed to pick the children up after school yesterday, but he said he had to work late and then this morning he wanted to get their rooms “set up” in our second home so he couldn’t pick them up until noon.  By the time he got here I had fed them lunch and Hummus had fallen asleep. Röb actually tried to leave him behind.  Fortunately he had fallen asleep in his car seat (which I had kept him strapped into since yesterday afternoon, just in case).

After they left I decided to clean out the freezer and I found a couple of bottles of vodka I had forgotten about and four credit cards that Röb had frozen in blocks of ice for me last year.  Three of the cards are expired, but one has quite a bit of spring in its step still.

I am heading over to see Karen in a couple of minutes.  She and I always had a lot of fun together and I think we could agree to disagree about Renata.  Right now I feel like she and I have a lot in common and I have an idea which might interest her.

Besties back in the day!

I had a difficult weekend.  I just can’t seem to pull myself together this morning.  I made it to spin, but I took one of the back row bikes.  Everyone was very upset when they saw that and kept asking me what was wrong, but I just can’t talk about it yet.  All my gal pals insisted on taking me to the smoothie bar for a cleanse after class to ask me more questions.  It was so sweet of them, but I just don’t even know what to say.  I do like being the center of attention, though.

Anywho, Merlin was kicking the darned soccer ball inside after school today,  I told him to go out into the yard and play but he said he couldn’t because of thunderstorms.  I doubt he will melt in a lil’ rain.  He managed to knock over my tumbler of vodka and, do you know what?  I didn’t even care about that (although I did send him up to his closet to think about it.)

What is it about boys and their balls?

We Have Arrived

Thank goodness, Robert’s joke about a trailer was really a joke.  There is no way!   I wasn’t really worried, but maybe a tiny bit worried.  The drive wasn’t too bad.  I slept most of the way actually, but everyone said the scenery was spectacular.

The house is lovely.  It is rustic cute, and right on a pretty lake.  It has AC and wifi, so I think I will survive.  Luckily I brought a few throws and pillows and some rustic art so we can feel very much at home this week.

All of the windows make it so light and bright inside!

The lake is called a non-motorized lake, which means you have to work to take a boat out.  No zipping into town with a cute lil’ motorboat.  You can see loads of kayakers and sailboats though, so it is scenic at least.  Unfortunately I couldn’t find a local photographer who could come over at the last minute to take photos of us arriving and relaxing, so it is up to St. Lah Lee again, to snap a few shots so we can even remember the trip.

Röbby says he has an all-day hiking trip planned for tomorrow, so no photographers then either.  Oh boy!  I sure am looking forward to hiking up a mountain with the children.

There is a totally darling little guest house out in the woods.  It is a little bit away from the main house, but it will be so cozy at night.  Merlin gets to stay out there.  He says he is “scared” to be alone out there, but of course he is just making it up.  And there is nowhere else for him to sleep.  He can’t stay with Starling and he would keep Hummus up, and the only other room in the house is way too girly and foofy for a little boy.  It will be fun.

Honestly! He can be so difficult. He should just pipe down and pretend he is camping. I have a flashlight on my keychain that he can borrow.

Since I am on vacation, I am going to go down to the dock with a large vodka with diet tonic and a squeeeze of lime.  Naughty!

Crazy Coincidence

This afternoon my mother decided to actually act like a grandmother and take her grandchildren to the park after school.  I just know she will enjoy spending time with my lil’ angles even though Merlin had that stomach thing overnight.  He was fine by this morning, he hadn’t thrown up since 6:30 AM, so I sent them off to school, shed a lil’ tear, and headed over to the gym.

After the gym I dropped Hummus off with Mom a few hours early (she was fine with it I am sure.  I dropped him in her kitchen, and called her on her cell phone to let her know he was there from my car.)  I had a long standing appointment for a “make-under” and a blow out at my salon, then I went and bought some cute hiking leggings and bra top at Marmot so I could go explore this wilderness area I had heard about.  I am sure you all know how much I just love, love, love the outdoors!

Well, it was a pretty primitive area, such fun, and I was able to hike around for a couple of hours before I ran into someone I knew.  I was so surprised!  Ty was there fishing on his boat.  I had no idea there even was fishing in this state park!

I had no idea Ty came here after work most days. We do have a lot in common!

The Cap’n invited me on board and like a good first mate I went up and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon with him.

The funniest thing happened though.  When I offered him a lil’ sip from my canteen it was actually filled with vodka instead of water.  How do these things happen to me?  I was so embarrassed but we laughed and laughed every time we looked at the canteen.

I came home with a lil’ my grain so I let Röbert pick the kids up and put them to bed while I drank a glass of champagne in the bath.

Winter Blues

I am such a cheerful and giving person, that most people would never guess that sometimes winter makes me sad.  I had planned on meeting Genni and Merry, two new friends from my barre workout, for coffee and maybe a teeny bit of shopping at the new boutique in town this morning, and I was really looking forward to it.  Since Röbert’s mom and my parents are absolutely selfish and don’t love their grandchildren enough to want to visit with them, I had arranged for a girl who works at the dry cleaner to come by and babysit for Hummus.  But when she didn’t show up at 9 AM, as we had arranged, I called her and she had some lame excuse about the weather being bad and she is scared to drive on ice, blah blah, blah.  Let me tell you, she will not soon forget the words I had for her about her laziness and lack of a work ethic.

I went downstairs to discover that Röbert was actually still home, as were Starling and Merlin.  I was furious with them, skipping school is not okay in my book, but according to them school was closed.  After I called up the Superintendent of Schools to give his answering machine a lil’ piece of my mind, I realized that I could leave all of them with Röbert, since he was apparently planning on working from home.

Believe me, this is way too casual for work! He looks like a homeless person with his shirt untucked like that.

I thought I was being very quiet as a I snuck out the back door (Röbert can be very sensitive about needing time to “work” when he works at home), but Röbert apparently heard me and I heard him say, “Good luck!”

The entire yard was filled with snow.  It was awful and I burst into tears.  It would have taken me forever to dig a path out for my car and the road was still unplowed.  I went back inside and called the Public Works Department to remind them to plow my road and ask, very politely, if they could maybe do my driveway too, while they were at it.  The lady who answered the phone was extremely rude and her supervisor will be hearing from me.

I am an active person and I like to be out and about.  Merlin was driving me batty with his constant requests to go outside and sled and he actually wanted me to make hot cocoa for him and Starling.  Sure.  As if I have a recipe for something like that.  Everyone knows that is what Starbucks is for.

Finally, at 11:25, I gave up and just invited Karen over for a lil’ girl talk.  She is overweight and elderly, but she beats talking with my children.

Seconds before we started in on the vodka shots.

Seconds before we started in on the vodka shots.

We watched Ellen and The Chew and then she told me a really funny story about Margie that I would repeat here, but I don’t believe in spreading gossip.  Suffice it to say that if Margie thinks her hideous husband is faithful, then she needs to go look at the cars in the parking lot in front of the Sleepy Hollow Motel one day at lunch time.  She thinks she is so much better than the rest of us.

Now I am going to shut my eyes for a few seconds because I have a lil’ my grain.  The kids are watching Frozen again and I gave them a lil’ whiskey in the instant cocoa Karen brought with her, to keep them docile.  Instant cocoa!  Can you imagine?  It even had marshmallows in it.

How to Eat

One of my readers asked me to share a cooking post with all of you.  I know that a lot of people wonder how I keep such a slender figure but, like all of the supermodels I know, I just eat whatever I want.  I guess I have a great metabolism.

For my children I love to make kiddie favorites like organic vegan corn dogs and organic gluten-free chicken nuggets.  Organic, vegan and gluten-free mean healthy, so I don’t need to worry about them.  These all go in the microwave and they LOVE them, so it leaves me a lil’ extra time to pamper ME from time to time.

Here is my dinner tonight.  I feel bad that I didn’t take photos of each step, but you will be able to see the finished plates at least.

My first course was a cocktail.   It is my own recipe, a Celery-Vodka Martini, so refreshing!

Thinly sliced celery stalk

Slice a celery stalk to the thinnest sliver imaginable.  Slice off any parts that look extraneous,

Pour Vodka in glass, practically to the top.  Think about vermouth and reject the idea, LOL.

Put the celery stalk in the glass and use it to stir the flavors together.

This is so sinful, but a nice treat at the end of the day.

For my main course I had celery soup, which is one of my favorites!  It is so rich and delicious on a cold evening.  It is also one of my very own recipes.

Thinly sliced celery stalk (I use the one from my martini)

2 cups local mineral water

Chop the celery.  Put the water and the celery in a pot and boil it for 25 minutes.  Serve hot.

This is my winter go to recipe. It fills me right up! I don't usually eat the celery.

Of course I always want dessert!  I love to eat and, like all the girls I know, I think sweets are the best part of my evening.

Freshly whipped cream

Whip some heavy cream with lots of sugar, and some delicious smelling vanilla extract.  Really smell it and think about just how delicious it will taste.

Slice a blueberry super thin.

Slice an apple so thin you can see through it.

Put the sliced blueberry and one slice of the apple on the plate in attractive manner.  Put a dollop of whipped cream on the plate and quickly rinse the spoon before you can be tempted to lick it, even though it smells so fantastic.

Eat one blueberry slice.  Chew the other ones, then spit them out.  Lick the apple slice then cover it and the whipped cream with Siracha so you won’t be tempted to eat them.

OMG! My favorite recipe ever! I am a real piggy when it gets to dessert, but who cares?

I hope you all enjoy my recipes.  Who knows, maybe someday I will write a cookbook.
