Catching Up

I keep forgetting to share some darlin’ pictures I took on Christmas day!  Here are two of my lil’ angles on Christmas morning.  Merlin is holding his gift, a very expensive set of hand painted blocks.  He doesn’t seem to be terribly interested in them but Hummus just adores them.

I think Starling had a few too many Christmas cookies so she is on a strict diet right now.

And this is my hilarious husband outside on Christmas morning.  I had gotten him those cute pants with Christmas lights on them so he wrapped himself in lights.  LOL!

Can you see the spark of mischief in his eye? LOLOLOL

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is truly one of my favorite days of the year.  It is so filled with goodwill towards everyone and excitement for the kiddos.

Merlin was up bright and early, jabbering on about Santa this and reindeer that.  Ugh.  I sent him outside to count the lights on the Sullivan’s house.

"When will Santa come, Mommy?" Ugh. I would just tell him that Santa is dead, but I would hate for him to let Starling know and ruin her beautiful Christmas joy

Röbert is my other Christmas elf.  I hope he has been spending some time shopping.  I haven’t found any gifts yet, but little packages are hard to find.  It must be jewelry!

He was helping me a tiny bit by doing all the cooking and baking for tomorrow. Also cleaning the house.

I ran out mid afternoon to drop off a teacher gift (or two) for Merlin’s gifted teacher.  He seemed surprised to see me at his parents house, but they weren’t THAT hard to find!  He didn’t seem to have a girlfriend there.  I hope he has one though, he is such a nice man.

Merry Christmas Ty! Thaks for being such a great teacher for Merlin!

Tomorrow I will be so busy opening my gifts and then instagramming them to make that bitch, Missy jealous that I am not sure that i will have time to blog.  So I will sign off here, wishing you a very merry Christmas!

Happy Holidays! Did anyone happen to see Röbert shopping anywhere? Tweet me @LahLeeSmith! Especially if he was at an upscale jewelry store.

Workin’ Out

Ever since I saw Mitch working out the other day I have felt like my exercise regimen is not up to par.  If someone as old and plain as Mitch can get into such good shape, then I should look even more like a supermodel.  So today I woke up and worked out for 4 hours while the children wrapped gifts for me.  My lil’ elves!

Today it was ab and leg work for me.

Then I dropped them at their grandparents and went to meet my crew for a lil’ holiday cheer!  Missy Winthrop was going to be there, so I bought myself a new coat to wear.  When she saw the label (I casually draped it, label side up, as one does) her mouth dropped open.  I guess Daniel is not the only hubby who is successful, huh Missy?

I look like a beautiful cardinal in winter.

Quiet Evening At Home

My friend Marla had planned to have us all over for a tequila tasting tonight.  She claims that all three of her kids have the throw up flu so she had to cancel at the last minute.  I am not sure that I actually believe her, but whatever.  I know that if I was hosting a party during the holidays, I would be more concerned about my guests, who might have turned down other important invitations, than a temporary medical condition that could easily be handled by a grandmother or a babysitter, and just pushed through.  Anyway, I called a few of the other girls who I know were planning to taste a lil’ tequila and asked them over, but no one could come.  So it was a quiet evening at home for me.

Don’t get me wrong. I adore spending time with the kids.  They are so clever!

I tried to get Hummus to walk.  I put him in a chair in our family room, but he wouldn’t even stand up.  I threw his favorite binky across the room, then a handful of brown sugar (no white sugar here, we are health nuts!) but he was not moving.  He may have been a lil’ tired from the two doses of Benadryl I gave him earlier when I thought I had a party to go to.

Not moving, no way!

Merlin and Starling were playing up in his bedroom.  It is the strangest thing.  They act almost like friends sometimes.

They were playing a board game...boring!

Everyone went to bed extra early and I worked on sending out Christmas cards.  So tedious, but my message about bullying is important!

Holiday Hijinks

I have had some of the gals over every single night since the beginning of December.  It has been so much fun to dress up and have some Christmas fun!  We have been doing themed cocktails some nights, and last night it was a vintage wine tasting once I figured out how to get into Mitch Sullivan’s wine cellar.  LOL.

I love dressing up for casual cocktails.

I think we are planning a black tie New Year’s Eve dinner party too.  Röbert doesn’t usually like to dress up, but I am sure he will enjoy a black tie event.

I am sure the children are all exhausted and don’t mind going to bed early every night either.  It is good for them.

Christmas Decor

My old roommate told me she would be coming to visit and I was so excited because I just love, love, love her!  But honestly, she can be a little annoying.  She married this guy who I had dated briefly but I broke up with him (not the other way around, like certain people say) because he just wasn’t cute enough for me.  Anywhoo, it turns out that he had this crazy idea for some kind of computer thingy that made him very rich.  I did not see that coming at all.  So now her Christmas cards are always, “Ooooh look at us on our yacht.” or “Here we are at the castle we bought in Tuscany.” and she looks so damned smug in every single one.

I just knew that this year I needed to treat ME right, so I hired a decorator to make my house look very special for Christmas.  I think I misunderstood the price she quoted because it turned out not to be for the whole job, but per hour.  Ooops.  Röbert won’t see the bill until January, so whatever.

Of course Starling wanted to help. She is a lil' angle.

The decorator did each room in a different theme.  The playroom is a casual Winter Wonderland theme.

Merlin wanted to decorate the tree, LOL. He'd better keep his hands off, because it is perfect after "the team" was done!

Starling LOVED the White Christmas theme in the living room.

I love a flocked tree. So wintry!

And then my roommate remembered a ball she had to go to in London or something so she is not coming after all.  Oh well.

Visiting Santa

Röbert was out of town on business again, so I decided it was up to me, as per usual, to get the kids to the mall and get their annual visit with Santa over with.  It is hard being a single mom so much of the time.

Before we went I took Merlin over to a playdate with the twins.  We had planned it earlier in the week and I thought he would rather do that than a family activity like visiting Santa and then picking a toy out on our way home.  I guess I was mistaken, because he seemed pretty upset when he found out.  Oh well, lesson learned.

I decided to surprise the other two, so they wouldn’t spill the beans to Merlin!  Funnnnn!

Super Singleton to the rescue.

Super Singleton to the rescue.

We got to the mall and there was an incredible line.  I almost decided to go home and come back another time, but Starling was so disappointed and started crying very loudly.  I hate when she is upset!  Valerie from book group was at the front of the line with her three creepy little boys, so I pretended I was talking to her and just merged myself into the front of the line.  The lady behind me kept muttering things but I have learned that you have to ignore disagreeable people.

Hummus and Starling were very well behaved and charming when they met Santa.  I stayed to see the lady behind us put her toddler on Santa’s lap and I laughed out loud when he cried.  She gave me a nasty look.  Oh well, some people just don’t know how to enjoy this most spiritual of seasons.  Haters gonna hate, right?

Starling had an extremely long list for Santa.

After we picked up Merlin he started crying, but not loudly like Starling did, so it was easier to ignore.  I feel a cold coming on for all of them so I added a little Benadryl to their applesauce tonight and sent them off to bed early.  A couple of gals from Pilates are coming over to drink wine and have a serious discussion about the Serial podcast in a minute, so I have to fly.
