At Home with my Kiddos

This week is spring break for Merlin and Staring so we are all home together, making wonderful memories.  I had thought we would be going someplace warm this week, but Röbert insists we can’t afford it.  I don’t understand why he is being so cheap.   I am sure we could afford a lovely little inn in Florida or something.  He gets to go on trips all of the time. Right now he is in Macon, Georgia for 3 days, and that is fine, but the rest of us are just stuck here at home.

I got the kids up early this morning so we could make some cleaning memories, LOL.  You would be absolutely amazed at what a child as young as Hummus can do.  He scurries around under things scrubbing the floors like a lil’ machine.  “Rub harder!” I tell him, and he does, with a giant smile.  The cleaning liquid I have him using smells so strongly that I don’t like to use it, but the chemicals don’t seem to bother him at all, except for a lil’ rash around his eyes later in the day.

The older two, on the other hand, are acting a lil’ too good for cleaning up after themselves.  Merlin claimed he was scared cleaning the gutters. You know given half a chance he would be scrambling all over the roof for fun like a lil’ mountain goat, but the minute I send him up there he is all, “Boo Hoo, it is too high.  The roof is steep!  Wah.”  I had to stand in the yard until he was done because every time I went inside to talk on the phone he would start crying again.  He was acting like a real baby.

I gave Starling some clothes to put away but the next thing I knew she was chatting on her phone with her friends.  Girls!  What can you do?

After lunch Starling went over to play with a new girl in her class.  I have to say that I like Amber’s mother Cari a lot.  She also loves to work out and volunteer at the children’s school. I think we might co-chair the end of year party and show these dopes how a party should be.  Merlin went to play with those drippy twins.  Every time I see Margie, their mom, I wonder if we are even the same species.  She is so dumpy.

Then, since Hummus had fallen asleep in the car I did a lil’ shopping and bought myself a cup of tea to bring home and relax with.  The first cup they gave me was wrong but I paid for it anyway and decided to bring it over to Ty’s, since it is the exact kind he always orders.  He was so pleased to see me!

He explained all about debate, which, yup, is as boring as I thought, but he was so enthusiastic that I pretended to consider going next year.

I am about to put the kids to bed and spend another evening as a lonely, single mom.

ETA: I just found Röbert’s old computer up in the attic in a locked trunk under a pile of tarps.  It is last year’s model and he just got the new one last weekend and it is hardly used so I thought I could let one of the kids use it for schoolwork but I can’t figure out the password.  I have tried “MyHotWife”, “ILoveMyWife”, “LahLeeisHot”, “Password”, “”HappilyMarried”, “MountainMan”, “ILoveLahLee” and “VeryHappilyMarried” and none of them work.  Any ideas?

Lookie What I Found

Röbert got back from a business trip last night.  He said it was all just conference rooms and meetings but I don’t believe a few days in a city like Omaha wouldn’t be a lot of fun, so I am going to let him be “Parent on Duty” this weekend and take a little time for Lah Lee.

He generally does a good job unpacking his suitcase and doing his laundry, so I don’t have to deal with any of that, but he left the case at the bottom of the stairs to the attic this morning so I decided to help him out and carry it up for him.  It happened to fall open, I guess he didn’t zip it up, and I happened to look through all the pockets so he wouldn’t leave anything in there by mistake.

I found the craziest thing in one of the inside pockets, a picture of Röbert and Karen.  It looks like it was taken at his office and I just can’t think when she was ever even there.  It must have been with me.  Why on earth would he have her picture and how did it end up in his luggage?  I have no idea.  But OMG, the picture is hilarious!

Hahaha! Look at her sweater. Where does she find these things?

You know, if Karen would just try, she wouldn’t be so bad looking for an older woman.  Poor thing.

Exhausting Week

I broke down and sent Starling back to school on Wednesday.  It was just too hard on me having her home all day, although she was a lil’ angle the entire time and hardly bothered me for a second.  Merlin would have been asking a million questions but Starling quietly went and found educational shows on the television.  As a matter of fact, she now has me recording something called General Hospital (maybe she will be a doctor someday!) and My Strange Addiction for her every day!  It was still pretty cold out when she went back on Wednesday, but my lil’ rebel wanted to “look pretty” so she wore a lovely spring dress.  Her old nag of a teacher called me to tell me that Starling HAD to go outside so she needed appropriate outdoor clothing in the winter, blah, blah, blah.  I gave her a piece of my mind and now Starling will be allowed to go and sit in the office and read if she chooses not to dress for outdoor play.

I wanna look pretty. Mama!

Röbert was out of town and missed all of the snow fun.  He had the nerve to complain to me about his business trip.  He said the planes were all delayed, it was all pretty boring, and he spent a lot of time in hotel conference rooms and visited some kind of plant or something.  I have no idea, I was so furious that I couldn’t even hear him.  I am sure that all of us stay at home moms would love a few days of pampering at the Holiday Inn Express in Duluth, and he needs to just pipe down!

I had to miss a whole day at the gym because of snow but that seems to be just fine by Röbert, as long as the gym is open for HIM when HE needs it. Ugh. I can't.

I am so tired, right down to my core, that I will have Röbert take care of dinner for the kiddos and I will pamper myself with some spa treatments and a Lifetime extravaganza in my bedroom tonight.  I think my good friend Joe Merlot might stop by too!

Our Holiday Letter

It is important to me to keep in touch with our friends and family, so I write a beautiful holiday letter every December, which I include with my Christmas card.  Everyone loves it, and I hear from many people about how much it means to them.  It is hard to find time in my busy schedule to compose it, but I like to inspire others, soooo…

This year was particularly wonderful for my family, and the letter practically wrote itself, but I had a hard time with the Christmas photo.  Röbert wouldn’t let me hire a photographer or buy something expensive for us to pose in front of (who doesn’t want a new cigarette boat? Röbert apparently.) so I had to come up with something that looked all cute and “I don’t care”.

Here is the photo and the letter…enjoy!

The flap says "bear cheeks", like bare cheeks. Get it? LOL LOL!

Dear Friends and Family,

2014 has been another very amazing and blessed year for us. We have had quite a bit of success, but the most important thing for us has been how close we are as a family, and the love we share with the world.

Röbert and I decided that 2014 would be a year devoted to travel, and we certainly have done that!  Luckily my parents live close by and adore taking care of our babies, so we can go on a whim.  Röbert has been to Omaha, Tulsa, and Bettendorf on business trips this year, and he spends a lot of time in the mountains.  I also had an amazing trip to San Jose in July.  I was there for a life changing professional conference.  Unfortunately, all of the trips we intended to take with the children (except a quick getaway to the beach) ended up being cancelled due to our busy, busy schedule.

Röbert has been working hard (as usual).  He also spends his weekends walking mountains and other mountain activities.  Also playing drums.  The important point is how deeply in love we are and how we have the best marriage I have ever, ever seen.  Even better than Cousin Stacey’s marriage to Eric.  I know all my older relatives think Eric is the greatest thing since the typewriter, but honestly, enough. Love you, Röbert!  Our marriage is solid.

Starling continues to be a beautiful and talented little girl.  In February she played the part of “Third Rabbit” in the class play.  She was amazing.  Hello Broadway!  She also has excelled in her academic life.  She got a B in math on her end of year report card, and a B- in science.  Everyone knows that girls never get such high grades in these subjects…genius alert!  LOL.  Right now Starling is enjoying a contemplative period in her life, where she is examining her choices carefully and often deciding that she will pass on opportunities.  I know she would be an excellent classical, hip hop and modern dancer, she just isn’t interested in that area at present.  And, as we all know, there would not be enough time for everyone to watch her youtube dance videos as well as those that Margot posts of lil’ cousin Whimsy’s recitals.  Haha, just kidding Margot, Whimsy seems to be catching up with her peers nicely.  Starling signed up for synchronized swimming last spring, but unfortunately all of the other girls in the class turned out to be creeps, so it just wasn’t fun enough for her.  The school also practically begged her to join the elite “Gifted and Talented” class, but Starling felt she could be helpful to the less gifted by staying in the mainstream class and leading the dummies by example.  She is sooo kind and giving!

Merlin plays guitar, and drums and has taught himself to write computer code and started a robotics club and a latin club at his school.  He had to quit all of his sports and after school art activities because it was way too hard for us to keep up with them.  He is in the gifted class at school…he takes after me this way.  Those of you who have known me a long time will remember what a great thinker I was as a young child and the many intellectual ideas and opinions I had.  I was also the prettiest girl in my class, like Starling, but that is neither here nor there.

Hummus is just the sweetest lil’ thing.  It is perfectly normal for babies these days, especially very smart ones, to take a lil’ extra time to start walking and standing.  You know how it is harder than ever for college graduates to get jobs?  It is EXACTLY like that for babies.  It just takes longer for them now.  Everyone knows this, so when Hummus stood for the first time last week it really was like he is advanced even though he took longer than old fashioned analog babies.  He hasn’t had a chance to practice standing since then, because I am always on the go with my gym and book club and important meetings at Starbucks about the podcast Serial, but I am sure he will do it again early next week (this weekend is crazy, right?)

Now a lil’ about boring old me.  I have been as busy as ever with going to the gym and the spa and the coffee shop and book club.  My gal pals and I also like to have a glass of wine from time to time, LOL. This year I learned about tea, which is fascinating and tastes different from coffee, even though it is usually also served hot.  There is a new tea house in town where I spend a lot of time.  I have also taken up yoga and do it occasionally with my new friend, Ty, who I met through Merlin, of all people.  The most important change this year is my exciting new career as a blogger!

“What is a blogger?” you ask.  Well, we bloggers write down our important ideas and opinions on the internet, opening up our deepest feelings and ideas to the scrutiny of the universe.  It is often a painful and harrowing experience, but it is what I am called to do.  Being a blogger is an important, important job, and many people rely on us to form their opinions for them as well as to entertain them.  These same people, the ones for whom I cut my heart out and serve it up on a platter each time I write, can be cruel and say terrible things about my children (someone once said Starling looked chubby).  “It sounds difficult and painful.  Why do you do it?”  I do it because blogging is important to us as individuals and America as a country,  In July I went to an important blogging conference.  It was amazing and I made many, many new friends.

I also learned how to be a dog trainer and animal investigator and saved my dear friend, Karen Sullivan’s dog Beefeater many, many times this year.  Poor Beefeater is a troubled dog, and we all wish the best for him and the entire Sullivan family.

This fall I started an anti-bullying campaign in my town.  Because I am an important blogger now, I think I will make it go “viral” and go all around the world.  Going viral is a blogger term, btw.  It is one of the ways I can give back, just a lil’ bit, to the world.  Bullying and gossip are both super mean ways of isolating people from their peers.  My adorable Starling has been a victim of bullying and gossip this year, even though she is by far the prettiest and most popular girl in the class.  Fat Alice and that little bitch Chloe need to learn their place!

It is important at this time of year to remember “the reason for the season”.  Christmas (and other holiday) blessings to everyone.

Dog Emergency (again!)

After Röbert left for his business trip this morning I went up to my room to try on hats, since I had gotten a bunch in my Stitch Fix box this month.

I think this one is super cute on me. What do you think?

While I was up there the doorbell rang and it was Mitch, who I seem to be running into everywhere lately.  Apparently Beefeater had run away from home once again and of course the Sullivans wanted Saint Lah Lee to come to the rescue one more time.  Mitch kept trying to hold my hand though, which was sooooo awkward.

He seems awfully dressed up to look for a lost dog, right?

I was getting uncomfortable, but he finally left and I heard a knock at the back door.  This time it was Karen, looking for Beefeater.  I gave her a cup of tea and she started crying and telling me about her marital problems.  I mean, I can see why she would want to leave Mitch, but she doesn’t.  She thinks he wants to leave her.  So strange.

I finally got her to stop crying Sheesh!

I finally got her to stop crying Sheesh!

I tried to be a good friend and listen, but I couldn’t wait to post about it on Facebook, without naming any names of course.  She finally left and I went out to look for Beefeater.

Well, I don’t know if you remember when I allowed to family down the street to watch my lil’ angles last summer and they let them watch television and eat sweets?  I don’t know their name, since they don’t speak English, but as I was power walking past their house, just as it was getting dark, I could hear whimpering in their garage.  I broke in and found Beefeater there!  They weren’t home, but I am just sure that they were going to fatten him up and eat him, and I told Karen as much.  I also can’t wait to post about THAT on Facebook.

Röbert is Home!

What a week it was with Röbert being away until last night.  I am exhausted and have a my grain.  I let him get up with the kids this morning and I slept in.  When I got up he had let Merlin and Starling dress up in some kind of crazy get ups!  What was he thinking?  I took a picture.  I wish that I had gotten a lot more wall in it.

Can you believe it?  Starling liked those ugly things and was mad that I threw away the gift her father had bought her.  What to the ever!  I sent them up to change and walked into the family room.  Hummus was out of his car seat for some reason and trying to crawl on the sofa.  It was so cute so I did get a picture.  I was checking my phone to make sure I had a good one and the clumsy little thing fell off the sofa!  What was he thinking even being on it in the first place?

What can I say? There was blood everywhere, I was crying, Hummus was crying,.  Thank goodness Röbert was home to clean it all up.

I went upstairs to recover for awhile and when I came down Merlin was running around like a crazy man!  I need a vacation from summer vacation!

Next week I have Starling signed up for a wonderful art camp with her best friend.  I think I will try to find some sort of program for Merlin and Hummus too.  Merlin is a bit old for the day care on Main Street but I may see if Mrs. Watkins will take him for a week or two.

I think I need a glass of wine now!

A Lil’ Time on my Own

So I woke up early this morning and decided to make a special breakfast for my whole family.  I have been having a lot of my grains lately and sleeping in a lot, so this was a nice treat for everyone!  And for me, yum, mimosas!

After breakfast Röbert had to leave on another business trip!

So I guess my life as a single mom continues.  It sure is hard and I wish my friends could begin to understand so they would be able to support me a little bit better!  I cried and cried, then I took the children out for a drive.  When we passed the Liebners’ house we could see their children were out back playing, so I told the kids to run back and play with them.  I just know the Liebners won’t mind having my lil’ angles for a few hours.  They are never a bit of trouble.  Of course Hummus was asleep.  He seemed to be about to come down with a cough earlier so I had given him a little preventative Benadryl in his lunch bottle and he was out like a light.

At last, a little me time.  I drove us right to the beach!

The waves were great!  It made me feel so much better about being a single mom!  It takes a village y’all!
