Reunited…and it feels so good!

Cari and Amber got back last night from Burning Man.  Apparently it is very dusty there so she just tosses all of their clothes into a Goodwill donation box somewhere in Nevada.  Let that mess be the charity’s problem to deal with, and the poors will be the beneficiary of relatively nice clothing (she doesn’t bring anything really valuable to the playa).

She says Burning Man always reminds her about taking care of the earth and valuing our resources.  Such an important message!

Amber and Starling were delighted to be together at school today.  I am afraid this has been a rough week for Starling.  I hope the school can get these other children to stop their bullying her about being a bully!  I don’t know why they have separated her from her best friend.

They couldn't stop laughing about something Julia wore to school today. She thought it was cute but it was totally ridiculous.

Hummus had a wonderful first day of school I am sure.  He was asleep when I picked him up, he slept straight through the night and was still asleep when we pulled back into the parking lot this morning. I poked him and handed him a toaster pastry.  School time, lil’ buddy! He is wearing his Daniel Tiger underpants today.  Let’s hope they get a little more respect than poor Elmo got yesterday. ;(

Prepare for Complete World Domination

At the end of last year Cari and I thought it would be super fun for her to run the PTO at the school for this year.  Unfortunately, at that time, only one person was running for president; Alison Ramapo, who has been running the PTO at good ol’ Donald Rumsfeld Elementary for about a century.  She has six kids and even Margie says she had the last two because she doesn’t want to give up the PTO reins of power.  She has a lot of support in the community and the administration likes her, so it seemd like an uphill battle.  Cari is such a positive person, and we felt like the results of our end of year party would speak for themselves, so she threw her hat in the ring anyway.

At the last meeting of the year we had a ballot box and Miss Laphem from the front office took it away to count.  The next day we heard the sad news; Alison won by a landslide.  Poor Cari.  But, when Cari stopped by the school, Miss Laphem admitted that there had been “irregularities” in the vote, and the administration was looking into it.  Apparently the final count was 1,461 to 2.  There were only 12 people at that meeting.

Why on earth would Alison stuff the ballot box in that way?  No one will ever know, I guess.  Perhaps her hunger for power overwhelmed her common sense.  She claimed to know nothing about it, but who else would do such a thing?  Yesterday the principal called Cari to let her know that she will be president this year and she was free to appoint her own right hand gal to be her vice president.  Watch out Rummy Elementary, the A-team is here!

Krystyn was already elected treasurer (unopposed, who would want it?) and Margie is the secretary once again.  I am so excited to wield this unprecedented power in a responsible and thoughtful manner.

This morning Cari and I had a lil’ exec meeting/mimosa party to make sure we are on the same page about what we want to achieve this year.

I think we got a lot accomplished. The main thing is we don't want Fat Alice's stupid mom to have any position of power at all.

Meanwhile, the girlies were outside planning ther own year.  They will be going back as fifth graders in just two more weeks!  I will miss having my lil’ mini-me around so much!

They are hoping that Alcott will join with them to make Sylvia's year really miserable. She should never have called my darling a bully!

I guess it is just one more responsibilty for St. Lah Lee!  It is worth it to me to improve the education for all of the children in our community, even the dumb ones and the unattractive ones.

Gettin’ My Shop On

I have to admit that this week has been a bit of a disappointment with Starling.  All she wants to do is go to the pool with Amber, and when they get there they just sit at a table near the snack bar and talk about all the girls they don’t like.  How much is there even to say about Fat Alice in a bathing suit?  Hideous…done.  But apparently that topic is way more meaningful than quality time shopping with mean ol’ Mom.

This morning I had planned to take her to the city.  Röbert’s mother had agreed to take Hummus for the day tomorrow, so he wouldn’t get bored driving up to pick up Merlin (that was the fastest week ever!) and so I dropped him off a bit early this morning with her housekeeper while she was at the hairdresser.  I am sure she will be delighted with her little surprise!

When I got home, Starling was dressed but not cooperating at all.

Sullen little thing.

Sullen little thing.

I’ll admit that I lost my temper and raised my voice the tiniest bit with her.  She said she didn’t want to go.  Oh well, more credit cards for me!  I let her get in her swimsuit and dropped her off with Cari again.  Girls!

I had a wonderful morning shopping till I felt like dropping and now I am going to stop into a nice cocktail bar and have something refreshing before my spa treatments this afternoon. Both things I couldn’t have done with Starling in tow!  I want to be all sleek for the weekend.

I am not completely heartless. I have some lovely frocks for Starling in the bags!

After we pick Merlin up tomorrow, Röbert has arrange for a house on a lake for the night.  It had better be nice, because I am missing a fourth of July black tie dinner with my book club.  I am so excited; a lil’ luxury lake excursion!

Final Day

Tomorrow is the last day of school and I just found out that it is a half day!  I have so much to get done before I experience the joy of being surrounded by my children all day everyday.  I asked everyone I know if they could watch my angles tomorrow afternoon, and no one can.  It seems that lots of families take their children out for special events after the last day of school.  Anywho, I am thinking of just packing a lunch for the kids, dropping Hummus at the gym and turning off my phone for the afternoon.  It is an old trick, but it is pretty effective.  The teachers love having a lil’ one on one time with Starling and I am sure Merlin can make himself useful.

Merlin was bugging me before school about some ceremony at school today.  I have no idea. Starling said it wasn’t important and only the moms of the real doofuses show up, so I am skipping it and getting a nice deep massage instead.  Then maybe a mani-pedi or something.

Merlin did comb his hair for the penultimate day. It is strange how he loves school!

We had some exciting news regarding Merlin.  I received notice from his teacher, Ty, that he qualified for some conference for the nerds in the state capitol.  It is a five day camp thing, and it is free.  He is also going to a soccer camp with some soccer team that Ty found for him.  Also free.  This loosens up money I won’t have to spend on him for 2 weeks this summer, so Starling can got to several weeks of art camp and horse camp with Amber.  It also makes our budget for our vacation even grander, I think.  I showed Röbert the poll last night and he said that even those modest homes might be too pricey and that he was working on something for us.  I reminded him that my blog readers want me to go to a beautiful white sand beach, and not one in New Jersey, and definitely no camping.  I think he is going to surprise me!

Off to the gym!

Outrageous!

When I was picking the children up from school on Friday the Principal told me that she wanted to meet with me on Monday (today) about Starling’s science fair project.  I was sure that meant she was going to get the gold medal or whatever they give to science fair winners.  I was thrilled, but I didn’t mention it to anyone (except Cari, since Amber was also working on the project) because I didn’t want other parents to feel bad about their children not winning science fair this year.  I am humble like that.

Imagine my surprise when I was told this morning that Starling’s project was being disqualified from the competition.  Apparently they think that rating her classmates based on both appearance and popularity is arbitrary and “mean”.  I did point out that Starling was not  rating her classmates’ appearance herself, it was being done by a scientific sampling of strangers online.  Also, the popularity rankings are pretty obvious to everyone else in the class, it isn’t something that they are arbitrarily making up.  Mrs. Swedburg was very firm about it though, so now Starling and Amber have to start over from scratch.  Honestly, all of this political correctness is getting irritating!

Starling decided to do a blind tasting of lemonade to see whether boys or girls prefer lemonade sweetened with sugar or lemonade sweetened with artificial sweetener.  They are going to make a third jug of lemonade with quite a bit of added sugar to see if the fatties, like Fat Alice and Julia prefer that, but we may have to keep those results to ourselves.

Yesterday Röbert did have some earrings for me at lunch time.  The stones are smallish, but baby steps, am I right?  They are such an improvement over kayak lessons, and I have big hopes for my birthday this year.  He also made dinner last night.  There is nothing sexier than a man with a gas grill!

Yum! My hubby is hot and so is the chicken.

School News

Merlin came home from school with some great news today.  Mr. Williams is going to be his teacher again next year.  Apparently my pal Ty enjoys being with all of the weirdos in the Gifted Class.  Merlin adores him, so that is great news for us.  I don’t think that having such a good friend among the nerds’ parents made Ty’s decision harder either!

Amber came home with Starling to work on a Science Fair project.  They have taken photos of all of their classmates faces and are posting them on an app where other people can rate them for attractiveness.  Then they are going to personally rank them for popularity and make a chart comparing the numbers.  It should be interesting.

I wonder how Fat Alice is going to do?

They posted the pictures and then went out back to play.  They are just such happy, fun lovin’ lil’ gals!  I am sure their photos would be very popular but they said they can’t use their own pictures because of scientific principles.  Oh well!

They are both tens on my app!

No School=Busy Mommy

Cari called me early this morning sounding very stressed out.  It was some kind of professional development day at the school our kiddos attend, and her nanny was sick.  Like me, Cari loves to spend time with people less fortunate than herself, and today was one of her days volunteering with hospice.  She doesn’t actually work with hospice victims or anything, but she does some kind of office erranding and fundraising.

I was so glad she called!  I had completely forgotten about the day off from school and I had scheduled a sauna and Pilates with Krystyn.  Last time this happened I just dropped them off at school and, when they found all the doors locked, they ended up wandering next door to a neighbor’s house and it was mucho embarrassing.  Sometimes I think I would forget my own birthday!

Anywhoo, I called and arranged for Margie to pick up Merlin for the day, and dropped Hummus off at the gym child care, per the usual, and then I snuck out to run some errands and pick up sweet lil’ Amber.  Wouldn’t you know it, now that Renata is gone, Hummus cries when I leave him at the gym child care.  I can’t win!

Poor Starling was bored by the shopping, but Amber has a good eye, and was very helpful in choosing the right undergarments for my dress for the next school party meeting.  I must say that I look curvier than usual in it, and I think Röbert will like it too.

After we picked Hummus up we went by the Harris’s to pick up Merlin from his playdate with Margie’s twins.  The three of them were playing some ridiculous game involving trolls and who knows what  with a stupid looking set of dice.   I really think that I am going to have to tell Merlin not to play with those weird boys anymore.  He is on the verge of being a popular athlete, I would hate for them to hold him back.

He is cute enough. With a lil' work he could be popular. He needs to choose his friends more strategically.

When we got home I let Merlin put his lil’ bro down for another nap and the girls went out back to play.  They were dressed up in pretty dresses and pretending to be fairies.  I just love how innocent and lovely they are.

They are imitating Fat Alice and her friend Julia here. They are a stitch when they get going.

I am so blessed to have such lovely children.  I just wish that everyone appreciated their kiddos as much as I appreciate mine.
