Afternoon at the Pool

I saw Karen packing up her car for a trip of some sort today, so I decided to invite Cari and Amber over for a fun afternoon at her pool.  I know Mitch would want us to enjoy it, as long as we didn’t disturb Karen, so this was the perfect opportunity.

The kids were all having a wonderful time (except Merlin, who still had to mow the lawn and finish cleaning the playroom).  Cari brought “James” along to liven up the party.  He chose not to swim, but it was good to hang around with him!  According to Cari, he absolutely loves her new car and has been driving it everywhere since they bought it.  Everyone loves a convertible!

Just friends, but so adorable together!

Röbert won’t be home until late tonight so I think I will throw a lil’ pool party for my book group!  Margaritas and mysteries anyone?

A Nice Surprise

Poor Cari.  She is always thinking of others and just gives and gives, but she has her share of bad luck.   We both thought she had finally found true love when she met the dashing and extremely wealthy “James”, but it was not to be!  His cruel children were determined to split them up and forced poor “James” out to the family summer compound and away from Cari.  When she tried to call him they would make excuses like, “He is not agitated right now so we want to keep him calm,” or, “His nurse has taken him to see his dementia specialist.”  Obviously they were just making excuses to keep them apart.  She never stopped smiling, because that is just the way she is, but I could tell that it got her a lil’ down.

Well last night Röbert and I had her over for dinner and she brought a new beau.  Are you sitting down?  She is now dating Mitch and I think it might be getting serious.

They went out for a drink last weekend and they have been inseparable ever since.  It is one of those whirlwind things and I swear they would probably elope this weekend if he wasn’t stuck with the tedious Karen.  He is trying to be generous in his settlement with her, but Cari and I are both telling him to forget her.  She is a bad person who almost killed Beefeater!

They are absolutely adorable together! Especially when you consider how wealthy he is.

So I feel like an amazing matchmaker right now.  Forget Tindr, call Lah Lee!

I hope Karen wasn’t kept up by our late night carousing.  We brought speakers out to the backyard so we could all dance under the stars (and the twinkle lights which are low enough to be romantic, but make it bright enough that a person could see who was out there!) and that meant we were dancing under her bedroom window again.  Oh well.  Hopefully her psychiatrist has given her some pills or something.

Lazy Summer Days Ahead

The last day at my children’s school is Tuesday, June 16.  Doesn’t that seem kind of early to everyone?  I just love, love, love spending time with my littles, but summer is a LOT of time with them, and I am just so busy.  I always end up running myself ragged trying to stitch together people to watch them so I can get to the gym and to my book club and to all my other important stuff.  Now that Karen is unavailable, I might really be in trouble.

Does anyone have year round school where they live?  Because that sounds absolutely fantastic to me. Maybe Cari could run for the school board in the next election so we could get us some year round school around here.

And speaking of book clubs, do you all have one of “those” members in your little group who always chooses some kind of “deep” read when it is their turn to choose the book?  Tiara seems like a nice enough person, but our book for June is the worst.  It is a crazy long one about a ship sinking approximately forever ago.  Who cares?  Didn’t Sopihie Kinsella write a book recently?  Anywho, I will not be reading that one.  Boring.  We might have to extinguish Tiara’s torch at the next tribal council.

So, in anticipation of all of the summer good times, Cari and I went to the beach this morning and took a couple of casual photos as we sunbathed on the beach.  No selfie-stick required, because “James” was kind enough to send a photographer with us.

This photo is cute. It was a spontaneous candid as I was just hangin' out.

An Affair to Remember

Last night was the wonderful end of year party at the children’s school.  Ty kept teasing me when I called it a gala, but in the end, he agreed that it was one.

The planning committee really dropped the ball.  Margie assured me that she was working on everything we had asked them to do, but when I stopped by the meeting two weeks ago this was the agenda!

It is as if they just didn't care.

It is as if they just didn’t care.

Cari and I had given everyone very specific jobs to do and they ignored them and came up with what sounds like the absolute worst party in the history of the world.  Pizza and juice boxes in the school cafeteria?  No thanks to that.  And I would certainly never allow my name to be used as the chair of that committee!

Once again, it fell to me and Cari to do everything.  Honestly, it was like the committee was made up of small children.

The first thing we did was change the theme.  Ty explained why it couldn’t be one of the great themes I had originally proposed, so we went with the “up” part of Moving Up and called our party “Giddy Up” to give it some structure.  We needed something to work with on such a short time frame.  I threw away the ugly flyers they were working on (children’s art?  Please!) and had some elegant invitations rush ordered.

Merlin got to practice his best handwriting on 434 envelopes.

Margie Harris was so mad that I said that her ugly husband’s terrible band, Man Space, couldn’t play the event, that she quit the committee.  Well good riddance to her.  No one needs to see Cliff Harris and his ridiculous friends in their high waisted jeans plunking out “Smoke on the Water” for the millionth time.

It was so late in the game that absolutely no one famous was available to play for us, but I think Mariah Carey might do it next year.  Anywho, I found this wonderful young artist, Kensington (www.soundcloud.com/kenzieonthebeat), who was able to make it to the gala and kept the dance floor jamming all night long.  Take that Man Space!

We also changed the venue from the school cafeteria.  I know, I know, what could be lovelier and more romantic than the school cafeteria?  LOL!  Well, Cari has been seeing a sweet gentleman who owns a substantial piece of property just outside of town and of course he was delighted to have us borrow his barn for the night!

“James” (we call him that because his family is kind of crazy and doesn’t like him to date) was very generous all around and helped us quite a bit with the costs of such a big party. Honestly, he is very forgetful, but so sweet and giving.

I arrived early to set up, but mostly just supervised “James’s” staff.  I am best at supervising staff.

The grounds around "James's" house are spectacular. So was my dress.

The barn was nearly all set up when I got there.

It looked so pretty with all of the twinkly lights! The stage was in front of me so we used the raised area as a VIP section for Starling and her other popular friends. Of course we didn't call it that, but everyone got the idea.

“James” and Cari had set up a play area with the menagerie of ponies and lambs and kittens and puppies that he keeps for his currently estranged grandchildren.

Starling formed a real bond with this lil' pony! I am sure the ring toss in the school cafeteria would have been fun too.

“James” also has a mechanical bull and some cowboys who did a marvelous demonstration of trick riding and roping baby animals.

My lil' cowpokes loved it!

We had a couple of food trucks who were delighted to give their good friend “James” a substantial discount on their excellent food. He uses them a lot at the corporate events he sets up I think.

“James” had just given Cari a beautiful matched pair of horses for their three week anniversary, so she let us use them to give cart rides for all of the children.

Margie and her friends were fit to be tied when these horses came out. She looked like she had swallowed a lemon.

It was hard to get everyone off the dance floor at the end of the night, but “James” had insisted that we have a spectacular fireworks show.  Children just love fireworks, so it was perfect.

Ty came alone. I wonder if he is single again?

I am exhausted after all of my hard work!  Thanks to James and Cari!  We could not have done it without you two!

Aren't they adorable together? He has a hard time remembering names and where he is, but he sure remembers how an American Express card works!

Happy Anniversary

Did you forget?  That’s okay.  Today is the one year anniversary of my first post on this blog, but you can send gifts anytime, LOL.

I have been through so much in the last 12 months.  And you, readers have been with me every step of the way.

When I started out the blog was just a light hearted lil’ way of showing friends and family what is going on with my hubby and our three angles.

Röbert and I even had a slightly risqué hot tub selfie on my first post. Hot!

But then not one single acquaintance signed up to follow my blog, so I knew that I had to make it more interesting.  I did this by showing the ways in which I, Lah Lee, make the world a better place every single day.

I make the world better by having a lil' me time on occasion.

In July of last year I made the life changing last minute decision to attend a blogger convention, where I met so many wonderful people.

I had to glam it up for nights out with my new friends!

Unfortunately, because of some late night highjinks, I missed every single session, but I did get to hang out with the special guest of the convention and get a very special photo taken with him.

He is a glamorous tv star but very friendly!

I returned home rested and rejuvenated and feeling like a “real” blogger!

It seems like I have spent a lot of the last year taking care of Beefeater, our dog who was temporarily living with my terrible next door neighbor.  Poor Beefy was so unhappy that he kept running away from home.  Saint Lah Lee would have to go out and rescue him over and over again.  If I had only realized how badly Beefy was being abused next door, I would have taken him back sooner.  In the end, he is back home where he belongs once again.

Luv ya Beefy!

Luv ya Beefy!

I have also spent a lot of time taking care of my precious children.

Hummus is getting to be so big and he is doing really well with his new tennis coaches.  He can’t remember the rules of the game very well, although they say that will be easier for him once he turns two.  I have been drilling him at night anyway.

He is very focussed and rarely complains about playing 5 hours a day.

Merlin is a genius and a terrific athlete.  Now that he is no longer allowed to play with his nerdy friends, I am sure that he will be popular in no time.

He could be popular, right? It would be so much better for his sister if he wasn't so weird.

And of course my wonderful lil’ girl, Starling has blossomed into a real beauty this year.

Look at how skinny her legs are! Lovely!

While she has been fighting a nasty rumor at school (girls can be so cruel) she has made a wonderful BFF named Amber.

I adore these two!

And she and I have had many happy times together.

Just spending time with this bundle of smiles is my greatest pleasure.

She is a wonderful friend (not a bully!), a wonderful big sister and a delightful daughter.

Super Gal in every way!

Of course my steady date, Röbert is the best husband in the world.  I love him so, so much and he has never so much as looked at another woman.

My hunk of love!

It has been a wonderful, fabulous, dang-gum amazing year!  I look forward to spending many more with all of my bloggy friends.  Especially the famous ones!

I had a special photo shoot to celebrate my one year anniversary. Steven Meisel had to cancel at the last minute but a big shout out to Glamour Portraits at the Middletown Mall. I think they did a great job!

Girl’s Night Out

It is Thursday and Cari and I were feeling a bit frisky.  Röbert came home early from work so I allowed him to put the kiddos to bed.  Let him listen to Merlin blabbing on about baseball for a few hours and see how much he believes that I should be more patient.

We decided to dress down and go to a dive bar.

We are looking cute but casual.

We are looking cute but casual.

I had told her how much fun it was to drink PBR with Ty at this crazy bar a few months ago so we went looking for a “dive” bar, and hoped to run into a few hipsters.

We didn’t have any place in mind except I had heard one of the young teachers at school talking about where she was meeting Ty and some other friends for a beer last week, and that place sound pretty hip to me.

It took us a while to find it.  The neighborhood was way more sketchy than we expected, but we thought that Rico’s Lounge might be nice.

Fine Food? I hope so!

Fine Food? I hope so!

When we got inside there were absolutely no hipsters and we felt kind of uncomfortable, but Cari ordered a Miller Lite, so we were stuck.  I looked at the menu and it was not fine dining at all, but we ordered the chicken fingers and I got a plastic cup of vodka and lemon juice.

At the end of the night we made some interesting friends (Martin has a trailer from which he runs some sort of manufacturing business) and Cari had gotten some phone numbers for her friends at the drug rehab center.

I don’t think this bar was the Rico’s we were looking for.

A Romantic Evening

I woke up this morning with a bit of a my grain so Röbert was happy to let me sleep in, and he even brought me breakfast (black coffee, my favorite!) and the newspaper (actually Us Weekly, we don’t get a newspaper) in bed so I could relax.  What a wonderful husband!

We were up late last night having an absolutely wonderful time with Röbert’s friends from college and their wives, who are now such dear friends to me.  We barbecued steaks and ate outside for the first time this spring.  I love casual fun evenings like we had, filled with laughter and happy memories.

The only uncomfortable part was that we could actually hear Karen crying really loudly in her house, which overlooks our yard.  I was mortified for her, felt kind of sorry for her, but also, it  put a real damper on our own festivities.  I asked Röbert to go over to encourage her to stop crying, but he would not go over.  So finally I had to walk over there and found her looking even worse than I imagined.  Her whole face was red and puffy (well, even puffier than usual) and she has gained a bit of weight since I last saw her.  I invited her to come join us but she wasn’t interested (thank goodness!  Imagine that pulling up to join our group of young, chic friends, LOL!) I told her we could hear her making some noise and I wanted to make sure she was okay, and she said something very rude and slammed the door in my face.  At least she stopped wailing, so we could enjoy ourselves after that.

I told Röbert how rude she was to me and shed a quiet tear, and I think he now understands what a monster she really is.

At the end of the evening one of the gals took a quick snapshot of us, which is already my favorite photo ever.  I wonder if it would be weird to send it to a few select friends and neighbors, to remind them how happy we are and to prevent any gossip about us?  LOL.

So happy with my guy!
