Nasty Surprise

This morning I went out for a lil’ run and who should I see riding her bike around town like she belongs here?  Renata!  She should know better.

She looks like a total fool and a complete bitch here.

She looks like a total fool and a complete bitch here.  Oooh, look at me with my ice cream cone!

I was able to follow her surreptitiously, and it appears that she is staying in those apartments at the far end of Willow Street.  Cari and I drove through the complex a few times before we headed out for drinks tonight, and I think she is moving in there!  There were boxes and another girl and they had no curtains up in their living room yet.

I will be keeping a close eye on this situation.

Yoga in the Park

There is a new yoga studio in town where all of the ladies who can’t keep up with those of us who really know yoga have been going.  We all call it it “Stretches for Betches”.  I guess they are having a hard time attracting members (LOL) so they sponsored a free yoga in the park session yesterday afternoon.  It was right next to the cute little cafe that my posse likes to frequent, and it just so happens that we were all there having a lil’ espresso when the session began.

There were some real try-hards who showed up and a bunch of older women who looked like they got lost on the way to their water aerobics meeting.

Guess who was leading the class?

No wonder she can't keep a boyfriend, she looks like she is carrying a little extra junk in her trunk.

For an expert yogi she sure teaches an easy peasy beginners class.  I would never want to learn from someone who didn’t at least try to challenge me.

Of course some people aren’t so discerning.

Haha, that is more than a little junk in her trunk! She might be carrying the contents of an entire yard sale in those stretch pants

Well, good for them for trying.  And good for them for giving my friends and I some well deserved lulz.

Summer’s End

Labor Day is always a bit melancholy for me.  Sure, I am super excited for the crisp fall air, and the pumpkin flavored coffee, but I am going to miss my lazy summer schedule where I don’t have to be home to meet the bus at any particular time.

To honor the true meaning of the holiday, I never do a lick of work on Labor Day.  All of those union organizers of yore, who lost their lives fighting for the most basic of human rights, would be proud to know that the hardest working mommy in America lets it all go on this one day and relaxes for 24 hours.  Today I decided it was time for a lil’ mommy and me for my beloved lil’ angle, Starling.  We got up early and packed a picnic basket with celery and tomato water for a fun-filled day at the beach.

Hurry up Mommy! I am ready to go.

Hurry up Mommy! I am ready to go.

I left a long honey-do for my hubs and his lil’ helpers.  Got to get that lawn in shape before fall!

Starling and I spent several hours on the beach and then snuck over to the pier where they have the cutest water park.  We hadn’t managed to get there all summer so I was glad that she was able to catch the last day.  Merlin will be upset if he hears but, oh well, it was just us girls today.

I am heading home in a few minutes.  I hope Röbby came up with something fun to grill on the barbecue tonight after he cleaned out the garage!

Friday Night Circus

The budget the school gave me for the faculty party was ridiculous.  Last year my understanding was that it was held in the past president’s yard with a keg and a boom box, and still the board all had to chip in.

That was not going to happen on my watch.  I wanted to do something middle eastern with all of the cute girls doing belly dances etc, but the cost of the carpets to cover the lawn was astronomical.

Merlin suggested we have a circus theme, which seemed kind of trite until Starling pointed out how colorful it could be.  So circus it was.  I contacted Cari’s friend at the party rental place and he found us a circus tent that he let us have for free with the table and linen rental.

It looked so cute when Krystyn and I finished decorating.

Such fun! And like Merlin pointed out, school is crazy and scary like a circus sometimes.

It was just cocktails with heavy appetizers and a small three piece country group playing live. Margie was of course angry that her husband’s band wasn’t asked to play, but honestly? No.

I found a steal on a darling jumpsuit for the evening.

I love a good bargain! I didn't spill a thing on it so I may return it today.

Of course Röbert always looks great!

hawt.

Merlin painted a couple of those cutouts for photo ops.  I thought they were kind of embarrassing, so I set them up across the yard from the party, but once the teachers got started, whoa nellie, they were ready to party.

LOL Ty! Never change!

Ty came alone.  So sad.  I wish he could find a nice girl.  Starling’s teacher, Ms Cole, brought her roommate who is a lawyer, and absolutely beautiful.  I wonder if she knows Ty?  They would make a wonderful couple.

I like to make a signature cocktail for my parties and last night was “Juggler’s Punch”.  I made up the recipe myself.

Juggler’s Punch

Fill glass with crushed ice.

Pour in vodka.

Garnish with a twist of lime and 3 cranberries.

It was a big hit!

I sent out bills to all of the board members to chip in this morning.  Last year the cost per person was $15 and this year it is quite a bit more.  I think I will keep my phone off for the day!

Going Camping

Cari and Amber are looking forward to their favorite event of the year, Burning Man!  We sure will miss them, and Amber will miss the first couple of weeks of school, but it is such a wonderful educational opportunity for their family, and they wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Of course Starling wants to go with them..  She has been crying and complaining that she can’t start school without her lil’ buddy.  I am not a camper and Röbert does not think Burning Man is a good use of our resources, so we will not be joining them this year.  I suggested to Röbert that we shake Starling out of her funk by letting her experience camping with him.  So the two of them set out for a Daddy-Daughter 3 day hike and camping trip early this morning.  Starling was all dressed in festival wear, including some darling fringed boots.

I think the moment Röbert digs a hole in the woods and tells her that is her toilet, is the moment they will be heading home.

Of course that means that I am a single mom again.  I don’t know how i do everything!  I took the boys over to the park to do a little fishing today.  I didn’t bait their hooks because, eeew, so there was no chance I would end up cleaning a disgusting fish, but it kept them occupied for a few hours so I could catch up with my friends at a semi-nearby picnic table.

He couldn't figure out why nothing was biting. LOL! Who is the smart one now?

I did call the preschool about Hummus and the director was so rude.  She said she hadn’t called me back because she thought I was joking.  The nerve!  Well, her oldest will be in the kindergarten at Rumsfeld Elementary this fall, and we will see how that goes!

Oh, you can vote for Hummus in the Cute Kid contest every day in August.  I have perused the other entries and they aren’t much to speak of.  I wish I could get a hold of their parents and encourage them to just give it up.

Beer Garden Fun

Last night there was a pop-up beer garden in the park near Krystyn’s house, so Cari and Krystyn and I all felt like we had to “pop” in!  Röbert was a little late from work, but he hadn’t seen the kids all day so I am sure he was fine taking them out for dinner and bathing them and getting them to bed.  They were all wound up from the summer dollar matinee I brought them to yesterday afternoon.  It was some old movie called “Three Ninjas”.  Who knows?  I loaded them up with treats, got them seated and went out to the lobby to read my twitter feed.  Some of the other parents were so rude!  Sure my kids might make a lil’ noise during the movie.  Who cares?  Did you expect to really enjoy a movie called “Three Ninjas”?  Whatever.

‘The beer garden was a hoot.  Krystyn got as lil’ tipsy and ended up taking off most of her clothes because she was hot.  LOL!  We ran into Ty and his hipster friends playing skeeball.  It was so nice to see my old buddy again and he just seems happier than I have seen him in a long time.

Today is the christening of Röbby’s grad school roommate’s daughter.  It is at an actual church three hours away in the middle of nowhere, with a backyard reception in the 95 degree heat afterward.  I had been looking forward to going and discussing people I had never met with people I will never enjoy, but unfortunately I woke up with a my grain again.  When will this curse of my grains ever end for me?  I try to be brave, but it is truly a burden I struggle to bear.  Anywho, Röbert took the kids and i am at home alone, suffering.  Becuase my head is hurting so badly, I can’t even concentrate on PBS so I am watching Teen Mom 2.  Oh Leah, never change.

Röbby looked so cute in his suit, but I know he is going to be hot in this weather. I wish I could have gone.

Gettin’ My Shop On

I have to admit that this week has been a bit of a disappointment with Starling.  All she wants to do is go to the pool with Amber, and when they get there they just sit at a table near the snack bar and talk about all the girls they don’t like.  How much is there even to say about Fat Alice in a bathing suit?  Hideous…done.  But apparently that topic is way more meaningful than quality time shopping with mean ol’ Mom.

This morning I had planned to take her to the city.  Röbert’s mother had agreed to take Hummus for the day tomorrow, so he wouldn’t get bored driving up to pick up Merlin (that was the fastest week ever!) and so I dropped him off a bit early this morning with her housekeeper while she was at the hairdresser.  I am sure she will be delighted with her little surprise!

When I got home, Starling was dressed but not cooperating at all.

Sullen little thing.

Sullen little thing.

I’ll admit that I lost my temper and raised my voice the tiniest bit with her.  She said she didn’t want to go.  Oh well, more credit cards for me!  I let her get in her swimsuit and dropped her off with Cari again.  Girls!

I had a wonderful morning shopping till I felt like dropping and now I am going to stop into a nice cocktail bar and have something refreshing before my spa treatments this afternoon. Both things I couldn’t have done with Starling in tow!  I want to be all sleek for the weekend.

I am not completely heartless. I have some lovely frocks for Starling in the bags!

After we pick Merlin up tomorrow, Röbert has arrange for a house on a lake for the night.  It had better be nice, because I am missing a fourth of July black tie dinner with my book club.  I am so excited; a lil’ luxury lake excursion!
