Going Camping

Cari and Amber are looking forward to their favorite event of the year, Burning Man!  We sure will miss them, and Amber will miss the first couple of weeks of school, but it is such a wonderful educational opportunity for their family, and they wouldn’t miss it for the world.

Of course Starling wants to go with them..  She has been crying and complaining that she can’t start school without her lil’ buddy.  I am not a camper and Röbert does not think Burning Man is a good use of our resources, so we will not be joining them this year.  I suggested to Röbert that we shake Starling out of her funk by letting her experience camping with him.  So the two of them set out for a Daddy-Daughter 3 day hike and camping trip early this morning.  Starling was all dressed in festival wear, including some darling fringed boots.

I think the moment Röbert digs a hole in the woods and tells her that is her toilet, is the moment they will be heading home.

Of course that means that I am a single mom again.  I don’t know how i do everything!  I took the boys over to the park to do a little fishing today.  I didn’t bait their hooks because, eeew, so there was no chance I would end up cleaning a disgusting fish, but it kept them occupied for a few hours so I could catch up with my friends at a semi-nearby picnic table.

He couldn't figure out why nothing was biting. LOL! Who is the smart one now?

I did call the preschool about Hummus and the director was so rude.  She said she hadn’t called me back because she thought I was joking.  The nerve!  Well, her oldest will be in the kindergarten at Rumsfeld Elementary this fall, and we will see how that goes!

Oh, you can vote for Hummus in the Cute Kid contest every day in August.  I have perused the other entries and they aren’t much to speak of.  I wish I could get a hold of their parents and encourage them to just give it up.

Burning Man? You’re joking, right? If not, I’m relieved that your precious Starling couldn’t go because from what I’ve heard, that is NOT the element you want her to be associated with. That is, unless you want her to join the sweaty throngs of hippies who use porta potties, don’t bathe for days, and smell like some god awful incense or country or something. Seriously, I once heard on the news that someone did a drug there.

I know you have a lot on your plate but St. Lah Lee might have to step up and have a lil intervention with her friend.

It’s never “fine” to be dirty, Lah Lee. However, I agree that rich people have to morals to handle drug-taking successfully. My problems never stemmed from the drugs themselves, just silly little paperwork mistakes. White collar stuff.

Does Sterling even know what Burning Man is about? THERE IS SAND EVERYWHERE. And rich men. But our dear S is way too young for that scene. Another couple years, you can get a matching mommy/daughter tattoo & *work* *it* *out* for the audience.

Ha if you want sand and rich men, you may as well go to Saudi Arabia. Wise choice not allowing her to go. I like Cindy’s tattoo idea–make it classy like hummingbirds or doves or a peace sign on your lower back.

Oh my. I just read a bit about Burning Man and it sounds “quite interesting.” Frankly, I am surprised it is something Cari would attend. I hope she makes it back home.

OMG! Starling could have gone to Burning Man?!!??!!!! Such a great opportunity–they have educational education sessions that include more than hippies, like STEM skills kinda stuff, and Maker tents to build STEM stuff. Just think how much awesomer she’d be with more FieRcE STEM skilz! Now all she’s going to have is mosquito bites, sunburn, blisters, and memories of time with her dad–so non-feminist!!!

Don’t worry SugarToes. I just posted to FB: “Can anyone tell mw what Burning Man is?” I’m sure I’ll get a TON of responses. Especially from all of these men and women in the Middle East who subscribe to my FB page and ALWAYS comment with super cute emoticons!

Would that she could attend! If you go to just ONE transformative festival this year, make it Burning Man! I will be dancing there in one of the most important camps on the main stage, personally invited by all the important people who run my camp.
